Fabric Labels, Etsy Find or DIY!

I've always enjoyed perusing Etsy. There are so many talented artists there. Because I'm a seamstress I like to see what others are sewing and when I first started selling on Etsy I was very jealous of the pretty tags people had to brand their items.

A few Google searches turned up some companies with great products but just too pricey for me.

But

An Etsy search was much more productive for fabric labels in my price range.

I purchased a few times from Etsy Seller "Mommie Made it". She was great to work with and I love her designs. See picture below.

But being the DIY kind of gal I am I decided to try some on my own.

I purchased this tutorial (also on Etsy)
and found the tips helpful but the templates useless.

So using Avery Iron on Transfer Paper and my 1995 edition of Print Shop (label maker application).
I came up with a simple design that I really like. Unfortunately, my printer will only print black or blue so my color choices are limited (I have issues with my 1995 printer but the darn thing just won't die!)
One of these days I'm going to get me an illustrator program and a new printer and then just go to town inventing my own labels. Until then these will have to do.
And if I can do it with my 15 year old equipment (150 in computer years) you can do it!
Or
You can buy it! Mommie Made It is great to work with.
***by the way I've tried using Modge Podge to attach a label to the back of a wood craft and it worked GREAT!!!

BEWARE THE FINGER!

Sounds like a spooky story a scout would tell around the camp-fire.
Or
Alternate title:
Bowlers Beware!!!

Behind this seemingly innocent, purple-ish bandage lurks an infection of epic proportions!
An infection that at any moment could turn into a giant slim monster and stomp through the streets of Salt Lake City smashing houses, eating cars and making little school girls cry out, "Sweet polyester! What is that thing?!"

It all started with our annual MLKJ (civil liberties) day bowling outing, a hang-nail and a bowling alley borrowed ball with finger holes just a smidgen too small.

(Side note- we started this bowling tradition back in GP. What better way to celebrate knocking down the barriers and walking a mile in another's shoes?)

We all had a great time and MDH barely noticed when his finger got caught in the ball and the hang-nail ripped off. WE all took notice when his finger started to swell and change color. Epsom Salt soaks and Neosporin applications proved to be no match for the monster growing within.
After some nagging from me and "Thou shalt obey thy parents" (Thanks mom) we found ourselves at the InstaCare where the on duty Dr. agreed his finger did look like a monster and we needed to take action.
Unfortunately, taking action included numbing (the worst part because one of the shots was right in the cuticle! YIKEES!) and scrubbing the finger as well as a tetanus shot and some antibiotics.

MDH's mom said he would get better faster because he listened to his mother and went to the Dr. We're all banking on that! (Again thanks mom.)

In the mean time (until the bandage gets changed to a different color anyway) it's open season on Barney songs around here. But I think MDH and I are the only ones allowed to do that. So if you see us and you sing a Barney song
BEWARE THE FINGER!!!!

New Paint --- I love it!

Yet again I've fallen so far behind on my blogging. I've been meaning to post this for forever.

One of the first things I did to this house, before we even moved in, the day after we got the keys, was rip down the awful wallpaper boarders in the bathroom and the kitchen. I didn't even think to take a before picture I just took it down. We (mostly MDH) painted the kitchen over New Years and I said I was going to paint the bathroom.............10 months later it still wasn't done. In stepped my knight in shining armor and got the job done!!!
These photos are the most "before" pictures I can offer!

He replaced the light fixture too. No more Hollywood dressing room light fixture!

She was dad's helper every step of the way!
You can tell it was still warm then, look at those shorts and flip-flops!

Okay so not the best picture but you get the idea. (BTW it is so hard to take a picture of a light fixture!) Blue walls, new fixture, new towel hooks, new shower curtain, new pictures on the wall.
The picture frames were a dollar a piece at the thrift store and then I sanded and spray painted them, the pictures inside are from our trip to England! I'm still planning on getting new bath mats and some more decorations.
I love the blue!
